Event Description:
In the past few months, the assault on democracy in the United States has escalated. Federal agencies meant to safeguard elections have been dismantled, the voices of ordinary people are being pushed aside by billionaires and unchecked power, and peaceful protest is increasingly met with force.
Across the country, rallies and demonstrations are planned on July 4 to defend democracy from this growing authoritarian threat.
We are showing up in Canada in solidarity. What happens in the United States echoes here. The fight for democracy does not stop at the border. We are connected, and we must act together to protect the freedoms and values that matter on both sides.
What We’re Standing For:
We are showing up to celebrate and defend democracy. Here are just a few examples of what democracy can look like:
Power that serves the people, not billionaires
Voting rights that truly count
Communities that show up for each other
Bring your signs, your voices, and your vision of what democracy means to you. All messages of hope, justice, and solidarity are welcome.
After the rally, we invite you to keep the conversation going and join us for a community beer at the Lions Pub.
