We need your help to keep the momentum going - here’s what’s next
April 5 Was Just the Beginning
Last week on April 5, people around the world took to the streets in a coordinated day of action to resist fascism, disinformation, and the rise of authoritarianism. In Vancouver, we rallied outside the U.S. Consulate in collaboration with Toque Off and in solidarity with the Hands Off! movement — and the turnout was powerful.
One person was overheard to have said that on their way to vote in the Vancouver by-election they saw our protest and felt energized to participate in the municipal vote. It was a reminder: people are showing up to protect democracy, not just with signs, but with ballots, with care, and with commitment.
The energy in our Signal Community chat is also inspiring and facilitating connection. This is becoming increasingly important as we continue to weather a hostile Trump administration and the decisions that are upending lives, rights, and democratic norms—on both sides of the border.
This momentum is real. We need YOU to keep help us keep it going.
Upcoming Protests
We have two more protests scheduled for this month, we’d love to see you there!
1. Rally to Mobilize 3.5% of the Population – April 19
This is a continent-wide call to action. The goal? Mobilize 3.5% of the population — the historic threshold that has tipped movements into victory. Join us in front of the US Consulate to say: we are the resistance, and we are not going away.
2. Protest for Democracy – April 26
Just days before the federal election, we’ll gather once again to amplify the call for responsible voting and collective defense of our democratic rights. Held at Vancouver City Hall, this action is about making visible the opposition to far-right politics — and showing that we are many.
New Information Hub
Based on requests from members, we’re building out a space for grounding and clarity — a place to find both:
· Backgrounders – Core concepts that shape how we organize, like the 3.5% rule (read more below), what fascism is, and how to build your own movement.
· News & Analysis – We're still building this out, but it will provide plain-language summaries of both key developments from verified news sources and related analysis from trusted voices in the movement—always with links so you can explore further.

Read our latest post on the 3.5% Rule:
To put a fine point on the April 19th protest, in our latest post, we break down the “3.5% rule” — a powerful finding from political scientist Erica Chenoweth, showing that nonviolent movements that engage just 3.5% of the population almost always succeed.
It’s not a magic number — it’s a map. And we’re following it.

Coming Up from VAF
We’re growing — not just in numbers, but in infrastructure. Here’s what’s on the horizon:
· Online Sessions on Disinformation (Zoom):
We’re imagining these as a kind of workshop and a chance to come together, share what we’re seeing, decode narratives, and figure out how we respond. Disinformation thrives on isolation. We’re building the opposite. Details on this TBD
· Website Upgrade + Event Calendar:
We’re shifting to a more secure web platform and will start posting regular updates, along with a live calendar of protests and events we support.
· We’ve Changed Email:
For security reasons, we’ve moved from Gmail to Protonmail. If you want to contact the organizers please email us at VancouverAgainstFascism@pm.me
Finally, a huge thank you to Shaena (and her sweet pupperoo pictured in this post!) for the heartwarming suggestion to liven up our website with event photos. We’re totally taking that to heart as we build the new site.
Please keep the suggestions coming, our strength is in our shared ideas and voices.
